The winery story

Alpen Cellars began on the family ranch in 1984, after grape planting started in 1981. Keith Groves studied the ranch as a vineyard site while training in winemaking. The estate grows Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Blaufränkisch. The winery uses hydroelectric power because the property is far from the utility grid. Visiting arrangements change with the season.

The connection to the land

The estate is in the Trinity Lakes AVA. The winery also uses Merlot from another Trinity County site, so check that wine’s individual origin.
